How Scoring Works
Vine Savant's scoring system is designed to be fair, competitive, and easy to understand. Here is everything you need to know about how to top the leaderboard.
Scoring Overview
Vine Savant uses a binary scoring system: you either get it right and earn points, or you miss it and get zero. There are no penalties for wrong answers, so it's always worth making a guess!
Key Rules
- Configurable Points: The game host sets the point value for each question type. By default, every question is worth 10 points.
- Exact Matches Only: You must match the answer exactly to score.
- No Partial Credit: There are no "close enough" points.

Question Types
Varietal
The core identity of the wine. You must correctly identify the primary grape variety (e.g., "Cabernet Sauvignon").
Region
Where the wine was made. This is a specific region match (e.g., "Napa Valley" or "Bordeaux").
Price
Since wine prices vary by store, Vine Savant uses Price Ranges (e.g., "$15 - $20"). You score points if your guessed range matches the bottle's actual price range.
Trivia
Hosts can enable trivia questions for each wine to test your general knowledge. These are multiple-choice questions related to the specific bottle or region.
Note: Some advanced games may also include optional questions like Alcohol Content if enabled by the host.
Scoring Tips
- Check the Host Settings: Before the game starts, you can see how many points each question is worth. Some hosts might make the Varietal worth more than the Price!
- Use the Tasting Grid: While not scored directly, using the tasting notes feature helps you deduce the right answer by analyzing the wine's acidity, tannins, and body systematically.
- Always Guess: An empty answer guarantees 0 points. A guess always has a chance!
