How to Guess ABV

Alcohol creates a warming sensation in your throat and adds "body" or viscosity to the wine.

  • Low Alcohol (Under 12.5%): Feels light, no burn. Common in Riesling or Vinho Verde.
  • Medium Alcohol (12.5% - 13.5%): Standard table wine feel.
  • High Alcohol (Over 14.5%): Creates "legs" or "tears" on the glass and feels warm or hot in the back of the throat. Common in Napa Cabs or Zinfandel.
