We're sorry to see you go. This page explains how to delete your Vine Savant account and what happens to your data.

What Happens When You Delete Your Account

When you request account deletion, the following will occur:

✅ Data That Will Be Deleted

  • Your username and email address
  • Your profile information (display name, avatar preferences)
  • Your authentication credentials
  • Your personal account settings
  • Your game history and participation records
  • Any uploaded wine bottle photos

⚠️ Data That Will Be Anonymized

  • Your wine ratings and tasting notes (remain in community statistics but are no longer linked to you)
  • Your quiz responses and scores (historical game data is preserved but anonymized)
  • Your reactions and timeline events in past games (anonymized to preserve game integrity)

This ensures that past games remain complete for other players while removing your personal identity.

🔒 Data We Retain

  • Transaction records (if applicable) for legal and accounting purposes
  • Support communications for record-keeping
  • Aggregated, anonymized analytics data that cannot identify you

Deletion Timeline

⏱️ Account deletion is processed within 30 days

  1. Immediate: Your account is deactivated and you can no longer sign in
  2. Within 7 days: Your personal information is removed from active systems
  3. Within 30 days: Your data is permanently deleted from backups and archives
  4. Confirmation: You'll receive an email confirming your account has been fully deleted

Once your account is deleted, you will not be able to recover your data, game history, or username. Please consider these alternatives before proceeding:

  • Username: Your Vine Savant username (if you have one)

  • Confirmation: A statement like "I confirm that I want to permanently delete my account"

What Happens After You Submit Your Request

    We'll Verify Your Identity

    To protect your account security, we may ask you to verify your identity by signing in or answering security questions.

    We'll Confirm Your Request

    You'll receive an email confirming that we've received your deletion request and explaining what will happen next.

    Your Account Will Be Deactivated

    Within 24 hours, your account will be deactivated. You will no longer be able to sign in or access any games.

    Deletion Is Completed

    Within 30 days, your data will be permanently deleted from all systems. You'll receive a final confirmation email when the process is complete.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I cancel my deletion request?

Yes, but only within 24 hours of submitting your request. After that, the deletion process begins and cannot be reversed. Contact us immediately at support@vinesavant.com if you change your mind.

Can I create a new account with the same email later?

Yes. Once your account is fully deleted (after 30 days), you can create a new account using the same email address. However, your previous data will not be restored.

What if I only used anonymous sign-in?

If you played anonymously without creating an account, your data is automatically removed after 90 days of inactivity. You can also email us with details about your recent games to manually request deletion.

Will other players be notified that I deleted my account?

No. Your past game contributions will remain visible (anonymized), but other players will not receive any notification about your account deletion.

What about games I'm currently hosting?

If you're the host of active games, those games will remain accessible to other players, but host privileges will be transferred or removed. Consider ending or transferring your games before deleting your account.
